Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio Review

This watch was definitely made for the yacht lovers in our little family. Officine Panerai’s Classic Yacht Challenge is being celebrated, revered and honored with this Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio. The race itself has gone on annually for ten years now, and this watch was released as a memento of its success. This exclusive new model only is available in a run of 50 watches and all of them will be produced with the Panerai “10 Years of Passion” logo on their case backs.

This Luminor is also featuring the sublimely classical 47mm Panerai case design that the company originally created for the Italian Navy Special Forces. In order to live up the Navy’s strict and intense requirements for all timepieces, Panerai had to come up with a watch that cost effortlessly be robust, reliable and readable underwater as well. Their resulting accomplishment was one that the company has never forgotten about and this model is one of the finest displays of such incorporation of their nautical legacy.

This watch is made from brushed titanium (a hypoallergenic material that is a combination of ”extreme corrosion resistance, solidity and lightness.”) and thanks to its screw-down back and crown guard lever the water-resistance of this watch is good for up to 300 meters. Clearly this is for the diver in all of us, interestingly the watch also has an unidirectional rotating bezel that allows divers to safely time their dives.

There is a second counter at nine ‘clock and the classic Panerai date window is positioned at the 3 o’clock position. Meanwhile, the model’s dial (which is black) has Panerai’s other trademark, its luminous hour markers. This makes the watch remarkably simplistic and clear to read either during the day, in the black of night or deep in the depths of the ocean.

The watch’s partially-skeltonised hands are what makes the watch so visible at all times. The watch is also powered by the automatic manufacture caliber P.9000 and comes with a rubber strap intended for wearing on a yacht or around other aquatic activities. If you’ve got plans to wear it on dry earth like a regular landlubber, be sure to check our straps page for a wide variety of gorgeous, leather watch straps that can spruce up any Panerai you may be wearing on your wrist, not just this model.
