Panerai Radiomir 1940 42 mm (PAM00512): A Brief Review
Posted by Daniel Luczak on 14th Apr 2020
Who doesn't love Panerai? Everyone does. Panerai watches offer a certain elegance, performance, and class that no other competitor does. This is precisely the reason why Panerai watches are wildly popular among watch enthusiasts across the globe. The Panerai 512 is a prime example of history meeting modern technology with clean styling and top notch performance, all in one superb looking watch.
What Does The Panerai 512 Offer?
The Panerai 512 comes with a stainless-steel case, which is 42 mm in diameter. Many consider this watch perfect for attending sports events, and not perfect for casual wear. However, there are those who contest that the PAM00512 is quite dressier, and can easily be worn with any outfit you want.
If you talk about the dome and the dial of this watch, it comes with an amazing and futuristic black sandwich 'dirty' dial, which is encased inside a gorgeous anti-reflective coated synthetic sapphire. The dial is black in nature, and the hands and the markers are coated in a brown color. Then brown color offers an elegant contrast against the black background and makes the time easily readable for everyone.
Panerai also decided to eliminate the date window on this dial, and offer a three-hand layout for easy and informative timekeeping with the dial. The black background often gives a misconception of being black-brown, which is quite adored by a lot of Paneristis.
Panerai 512 uses an in-house manual movement, reference P.999/1. This is the slimmest movement created in house by Panerai, and it offers a power reserve of up to 60 hours. This is pretty amazing, considering that the movement itself is quite thin. Moreover, the movement offers a frequency of 21,600 vph, and it is also shockproof. It sits elegantly inside the back of the watch.
The watch is paired with a gorgeous black alligator strap, complimented with full white stitching. It looks beautiful at first glance and easily captivates it's audience. The strap itself is paired with a tang buckle to look beautiful, and the buckle ties everything together perfectly.
The case diameter is 42 mm, unlike its predecessors, which offer a diameter of 45 mm. Moreover, the height of the watch is 48.5 mm. The thickness is 11.5 mm, and the lug width is a popular 22 mm width. Yes, it is a shrunken down version of its original predecessors, and it sits comfortably around the wrist. You will forget that you are wearing a watch, as it does not cause any strain on the wrist.
What Do We Have to Say?
The watch comes with an amazing alligator strap, but many wearers have chosen to pair it with an aftermarket strap, something different, such as a leather strap or more casual looking watch band.
If you want to use different watch straps for your PAM 512, you can head over to DaLuca Straps, and choose whatever kind of strap you want. Whether you want a vintage ammo pouch watch strap or a modern Shell Cordovan Watch Strap, DaLuca Straps has everything to offer to you. The final strap choice is up to you.
