Radiomir 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso
19th Aug 2014
A special edition Radiomir (from 2013), the Radiomir 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso is an exquisite watch for a number of reasons. The watch itself is a modern yet classical interpretation of one of Panerai’s greatest models, the Radiomir. Just a few of the classical aspects of this watch include a cushion case of especially polished red gold (an alloy which provides a higher percentage of copper than yellow or pink gold and also contains platinum) which encloses a trademark dial inspired by Panerai’s storied history. The dial itself is modeled after a rare collector’s piece from sometime in the late 1930’s and is presented in a minimalist fashion with simplistic and elegant hour and dot markers.
At three o’clock you have the date, a linear indicator of power reserve and the watch also contains a small seconds counter with an am/pm indicator for a secondary time zone. The dial itself comes in a dark blue tone and has a satiné soleil finish to it.
The watch clasp is molded from the same red gold alloy used on the watch’s case and ships with a customized blue alligator skin strap. Like all Panerais, this watch’s clasp is attached to the case by a combination of watch straps allowing for easy strap swapping between models.
The back of the watch is open and allows for a look into the almost-majestic inner workings of the hand-wound p.2002/10 calibre. This design itself is particularly complex (even by Panerai’s standards). A simple glimpse at the back of this watch will invoke awe in even the most jaded watch collector.
Panerai has a long history of releasing special-edition and limited release watch models and this one is undoubtedly one of their finest accomplishments in that particular arena of innovation, and any Panerist would drool to get their hands on this model in particular. The red gold on this piece in particular truly exemplifies a level of high-end quality that just isn’t found in other models from any other company. Panerai is artful in their harnessing such a gorgeous metal into such a beautiful timepiece.
This (among with most other Panerais) is a watch that you can wear out to any fine-dining experience or other esteemed gathering and simply stun with it. Once again Panerai manages to fuse their undeniable loyalty and allegiance to their ever-growing legend with a bold swipe at modernized watch design and as a result we end up with this precious watch known as the RADIOMIR 8 DAYS GMT ORO ROSSO.
