Posted by Daniel Luczak on 22nd Sep 2019
Every adventurer and diver loved the Sea-Dweller when it first came out. It quickly became the preferred diving watch, and Rolex has dominated the diving watch industry ever since. This is why Rolex has introduced a brand new version of Sea-Dweller on the 50th anniversary of the watch. given the reference # 1226600. Let’s dive deep and take a deeper look.
Rolex introduces the 50th Anniversary edition of Sea-Dweller in March at Baselworld 2017. The case has been upgraded to the stronger and more robust 904L stainless steel case. Rolex used their patented 904L stainless steel for this watch. The case diameter is 43mm, and it can withstand more pressure than its predecessors.
The case is also fitted with Helium Escape Valve on the case band at 9 o'clock and a triplock crown. It has a depth rating more than three times lower than the previous Deepsea Sea-Dweller of 4000ft.
The 50th Anniversary edition of Se Dweller is fitted with a matte black dial with red 'Sea-Dweller' writing at 6 o'clock. This looks gorgeous and stunning. The dial is entirely in a matte colorway rather than the usual glossy color scheme.
Moreover, the dial is now fitted with a cyclops. This makes the readability for the date easier and better than previous models. Overall, the dial will remind you of the legendary Red Submariner ref. 1680.
The round markers and hands are coated with Rolex's proprietary luminescent coating “Chromalight." This increases the functionality of the watch and enhances the readability in dark and low-light environments. This makes it perfect for deep-sea divers and adventurers. Chromalight is the proprietary blue lume that is extremely powerful and exceptional in appearance. It can last over 8 hours with consistent and bright glow in dark places.
The 50th Anniversary edition comes with a fitted with a graduated black monobloc cerachrom bezel. The bezel features hash marks throughout the whole 60-minute scale. We have to admit that the new bezel gives off a beautifully lustrous appearance.
The watch comes with a sturdy and solid-link Oyster bracelet. The bracelet is made from Rolex's patented 904L stainless steel and is fitted with an Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening.
The double extension system will allow the wearers to adjust the size of the bracelet without having to use any tools. It can easily be adapted to be worn over a thick diving suit. The bracelet can easily fit onto a suit up to 7mm thick. The Fliplock extension link extends the bracelet by 26 mm. However, the Rolex Glidelock system allows adjustment of the bracelet length in 2 mm increments. The adjustments can be made up to a total of approximately 20 mm.
The Inner Movement
The 50th Anniversary Sea-Dweller is powered by an exceptional Rolex automatic in-house caliber 3235. It is among the most robust and accurate calibres developed by Rolex engineers. This powerful movement comes with a Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and the new Chronergy Escapement with optimized energy efficiency.
Since this movement is a certified Swiss chronometer, it can provide a power reserve of 70 hours. The movement is engulfed inside the stainless steel case and comes with the engravings 'Original Gas Escapement Valve' and 'Rolex Oyster Sea-Dweller'.
