Panerai Submersible Quarantaquattro eSteel Watch Review

During Watches & Wonders the previous year, Panerai put a lot of emphasis on eco-friendly watchmaking. The company unveiled three Luminor Marina eSteel versions with over 60% recyclable components. The debut of Panerai's new Submersible eSteel range continues this narrative.

These submersibles are available in three distinct colors: PAM01287 (green), PAM01288 (grey) and PAM01289 (blue). Moreover, you will see one significant cosmetic enhancement over the Luminor Marina Steel offerings from the previous year. So, what does the brand-new Panerai Submersible Quarantaquattro eSteel Watch Lineup have to offer? Let’s dive into the specifics of this lineup and explore it further.

The Panerai Submersible Quarantaquattro eSteel Watch Concept

At Watches & Wonder 2021, Panerai showed the first evidence of accessible sustainability without sacrificing quality. The Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel versions were reasonably priced while using 58.4% recycled materials.

Panerai made 89g of the watch's eSteel components, or 58% of its 152.4-gram overall weight, of recycled-based elements. The straps and storage box of the Luminor Marina eSteel are made entirely of recycled materials. At the same time, Panerai made the case and dial from a novel steel alloy based on recycled elements.

It indicated that Panerai was looking for both short- and long-term options to enhance its sustainable development profile. The "eSteel" label on the dial served as a distinguishing feature that set them apart from the standard versions.

One year later, Panerai is introducing its new Submersible eSteel versions. These three new timepieces offer a stunning, modern look while maintaining the brand's emphasis on sustainability.

Highlights of the Submersible eSteel Watch

With the Submersible range, Panerai employs ceramic that has been polished to a glossy finish for its unidirectional rotational dive bezel. Additionally, the dial has a gradient design with light at the top and dark at the bottom.

The P.900 movement is in more than a dozen Panerai models and is also an essential component of these watches. The automatic P.900 caliber movement that powers these Panerai models is made up of 171 parts. Moreover, it has 23 jewels, runs at 28,800 vph, and has a three-day power backup. Panerai also employs the P.900 movement in their Submersible 42mm 3 Days models.

The Submersible Quarantaquattro weighs 137g and comprises 72 grams of recyclable materials. That amounts to 52% of the watch's total weight of 137g. A bigger initiative by Panerai to lessen the ecological effect of the watch industry includes the use of eSteel in the Panerai Submersible Quarantaquattro.

Quarantaquattro (forty-four in Italian) line offers three new models with 44mm stainless steel casings: PAM01287 (green), PAM01288 (grey) and PAM01289 (blue). The characteristics of the eSteel case are identical to those of a typical stainless-steel case. Therefore, you won't notice any changes from the other steel models in the range. The watches are wonderful dive watches and are water-resistant up to 300 meters.

The Distinctive Colors

Three distinct colors are available for the Submersible eSteel versions.

  • PAM01287 (green): The Verde Smeraldo PAM01287 is the first. This model has a ceramic green bezel, a green recycled PET band, and a steel clasp. It also has a greenish glossy gradient dial.
  • PAM01288 (grey): The second variant is the PAM01288 Grigio Roccia. This model has a black ceramic bezel, a 100% recycled grey PET strap, and a steel clasp. It also has a grey polished gradient dial.
  • PAM01289 (blue): The Blu Profondo PAM01289 is the last variant. This model has a ceramic blue bezel, a dark blue finished gradient dial, and a blue recycled PET strap with a steel clasp.

A textured crown and an extra rubber strap in a complementary color are also part of each model. The new eSteel versions from Panerai come in the same three lovely palettes as the Luminor Marina models from the previous year. These are stunning color palettes that can go well with formal and informal occasions, but informal diving would be at its heart.

Panerai eSteel Branding

Panerai ensures that you understand that the watch is an exclusive eSteel model. The "eSteel" lettering on the dial is virtually identical to what was on the Luminor Marina models. However, there is one significant distinction.

Despite the rotated "e," it still has the same look. However, it is not carried out in a contrasting color. Therefore, the eSteel logo blends in much better, giving the watches a slightly more sophisticated appearance.

Additionally, an etching on the crown-protection mechanism identifies the watch as being made of eSteel. These three models are particularly fashionable choices within the Submersible family because of the improved incorporation of the eSteel logo and green aspects.
