Review of the Cartier Santos-Dumont Watch

In the wake of the recent Santos family revamp, Cartier took the opportunity at SIHH 2019 to announce a new line of beautiful watches: the Santos-Dumont.

The Cartier Santos-Dumont Watch

These watches offer classical size, slim feel, and are accessible only on a leather strap. The new Santos-Dumont line is a stunning example of the Cartier design language. Moreover, these watches are sold at a price point not typical to the Santos due to its use of a quartz movement. The Santos-Dumont line is quite affordable and stylish while retaining that very appealing wrist appearance that Cartier is famous for.

Santos-Dumont is really a brand-new product for Cartier. It offers a brand-new perspective and a completely new design. Alberto Santos-Dumont inspired the name and new shape, and his specially commissioned watch served as the inspiration for this line.

What's more fascinating about this series is that these watches reflect the shift in gears for the stylistic and strategic course of the company. It is pared back, simple and offers more control. This line defines luxury in its own peculiar way. Let’s take a look at what this line offers to the audiences.

The Case

At a width of 39.8 mm and a length of 47.5 mm, the Santos-Dumont watch line from Cartier rests on the wrist very comfortably. The fact that the case is a simple 9.08 mm thick helps with this. This line is not ultra-thin, but it is thin enough to slip undisturbed under the cuffs. It is sleek, modish looking, and not too big for the wrists.

Cartier is well recognized for designing and offering gorgeously designed watch cases. A good example of that is the Cartier Santos-Dumont watches. In the incorporated bracelet, the horns curve down smoothly and join the bracelet.

A faceted metallic blue spinel is attached to the seven-sided crown. The crown is of the screw-down variety. This helps to give the Cartier Santos a 100 m (330 ft) water-resistance rating for the new case.

The Dial

The square dial style is immediately identifiable with the world-famous Cartier rounded edges. A sleek silvered opaline pattern of hours is indicated by stylized black Roman numerals.

For the minutes’ marker, a ring of an inner chapter is used. The watch line also uses blued steel hands in the form of a sword. Classic.

A preview for the date opens at 6 o’clock. The classic square bezel plate surrounds the dial. It is brushed, and eight screws lock it in place. This sticks out beautifully against the case's polished finish and bracelet.

"QuickSwitch" Watch Strap Swap System

Cartier's "QuickSwitch" system is brand-new and one of the coolest features of the new Santos-Dumont watch line.

Pressing a button on the watchband's underside frees the buckle or cuff from the lugs. This gives the option to easily remove the bracelet and pair your watch with a variety of other straps of your own choice. This means that you can change the look of your watch in a matter of seconds, and without having to go through a whole ordeal of changing different straps.

What Do We Have to Say?

Cartier introduces its own beautiful and well-crafted bracelets and straps for every Cartier collection. However, if you want to customize your Santos-Dumont watch according to your own tastes, DaLuca Straps is the place for you.

Pick a leather military watch strap or a vintage French ammo strap, it will be of the highest quality and will definitely become a soulmate for all your Cartier watches. Moreover, you can also choose from custom watch straps or hand-made watch straps for ultimate craftsmanship and finesse.
