Tudor Black Bay P01 Watch Review

Tudor Black Bay P01 Watch Review

The Tudor Black Bay P01 Ref M70150-0001 was launched at Baselworld in 2019. The response from the audiences, so far, has been inconsistent and fairly mixed. Those who have seen the watch in person admire the consistency of its design and consider it to be a great release. According to the admirers, the watch looks nicer and is much more comfortable on the wrist than in the pictures.

On the other hand, a great number of viewers were less pleased with the watch. According to them, the watch could have easily expanded the spectacular Black Bay Fifty-Eight collection, but the released version is a missed opportunity. It didn’t quite hit the mark, and it could have been better.

Nevertheless, an in depth review of the watch is a must. Let’s take a look at what this watch offers to the users, and how it feels to own.

The Case

The case is satin-brushed for a modish looking matte and industrial-type finish. It resembles the original version, but the company has made some significant changes to the case.

The 42mm steel case for the new watch is larger than the original 40 mm size. The end ties appear visually similar but are hinged only at the edges as opposed to the original design. It also utilizes an internal design different from the initial patent. Since only one end link is hinged, the 12-hour bezel on the Black Bay P01 cannot be removed completely. This may seem like a drawback of this version.

A matte black dial completes this brand-new style. The dial is paired with hands and date indicator with a Snowflake design. The new design reminds one of the gorgeous Black Bay family and all of its hallmarks. The case is covered by a crystal with a domed sapphire.

The Movement

The watch makes use of the powerful MT5612 Calibre. It is fitted with a brace of variable inertia and a power mechanism with non-magnetic silicone spring. The movement is COSC-certified as a chronometer. Moreover, the inner movement also offers a power reserve of 70 hours. That's a great in-house movement, and it doesn’t even cost you that much.

The Strap

Tudor has gone for a new kind of watch strap with an unusual hybrid choice. This unusual choice is a first for the company since they always adhere to the more traditional choices for watch straps.

The watch strap has a rubber frame with a "snowflake" pattern on the back. It is completed with a brown leather border on top. It will definitely remind you of something you might see on a Hublot.

This seems, in some respects, like an unusual choice for a dive watch. As a consequence, the watch community has offered a fair share of criticism towards the strap. Mobile satin-brushed steel connectors link the band, which is again influenced by the concept of the original inspiration for this watch. An aftermarket watch strap is a must for this watch.

Price

The Tudor Black Bay P01 watch has a MSRP of $4000USD.
